Cats in the Garden
In the slight cool thin morning breeze in my backyard garden
The cats’ faces side by side
One walking through ankle high plants in imitation of her long ago parents slouching through the jungle low and menacing toward unlucky Prey or hopefully a watering
Hole
The other big faced and bigger eyed taking in the warmth from yesterday’s baked bricks
Golden eyed
Asking me if his sisters display of unmannerly hunting is acceptable
Brief moments
Feet in the grass
The earth
My morning stars
And evening compass
comfort
In they go
Their wilding moments short-lived
But full of wonder
Where would I look without them
What could I possibly see
